The sixth EXPECT PLA meeting was held as an in-person event. The PLA was delivered by Riikka
Kastu, Niina Srbinoska, Ami Toikka, and Eerika Kantonen from Stadin AO, Helsinki Vocational College and Adult Institute on behalf of Finland on Monday 13th and Tuesday 15th June 2022.

The PLA was held at Stadin AO, Helsinki Vocational College, and Adult Institute.

Attendees thought this was an excellent PLA and the Helsinki team took on board previous evaluation feedback to ensure that it was a very successful visit. Other countries stated they had learned a great deal over the two days and that the event was very well organised.

The analysis showed that respondents found the presentations informative, detailed, and rich in
content. The timings of the presentation worked well and attendees appreciated the time given within each session which allowed them to ask questions to the speaker. However, it was stated that some of the presentations would have been easier to read if they had been on a lighter background and ifthe size of the font could have been a bit bigger.

Feedback showed that the structure of the day was very good, there was lots of time for discussioand reflection built into the programme. Attendees really appreciated the length of the sessions and the balance of the breaks which allowed them to think about what they’ve just heard, process the information, and exchange impressions with other partners from different countries.

Although feedback stated that it would have been better to be able to visit the Helen site but the online presentation was interesting. However, the information about the company was not relevant for the project and the upskilling/reskilling strategies and the cooperation with VET colleges didn’t get much attention. It is suggested if we are to hear from companies such as this in the future then the main theme should be around how they are upskilling and how they work with VET colleges.
Also, at the end of the PLA during the discussion session, we found out that the school had special teachers, who had time to encourage sustainable behaviour among the staff within the school. Several attendees thought it would have been interesting to have one or two of these teachers included in the meeting.

Attendees thought that some of the learnings could be applied in their countries, but some learnings would need a substantial culture change. The feedback stated that the compulsory module on sustainability would be something that could/should be implemented in their own countries to help inspire teachers and state officials.

They suggested that the compulsory element within the curriculum would be such an important step for their countries. Although not directly related to the Helsinki PLA some attendees reiterated that it would be useful to have an online shared platform to view presentations, programmes, and the documentation for each PLA as previously stated within the evaluation session delivered by Alyson. A further comment also reiterated that it would be helpful to have a specific PLA to discuss the final steps of the project; what we do with the best practice examples and how we develop our recommendations
